Hume's Wheatear in Iran

E-mail Print PDF

Hume's Wheatear (Oenanthe albonigra) - Extreme NE IranThe Hume's Wheatear (Oenanthe albonigra) is another member in the Muscicapidae family of birds in Iran. Hume's resembles the picata race of eastern pied but the posture is more upright and the head presents a bigger appearance. It is found in Afghanistan, Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates but mainly breeds in Iran excluding northern Iran.

Although it’s been observed breeding in extreme north east Iran but we are still investigating the correct breeding habitats in Iran. The red list position for this bird is least concern and the population is quiet healthy through out Iran. The spend most of their time at foothills with scanty vegetation. They nest in rock holes.
